Quick Regional Update

The wet season is loosening its grip on the Kimberley. Warm, sunny days and sea breezes are again more prevalent with just the odd thunderstorm in between. The landscape is lush and green, waterfalls gushing and the swarms of dragon flies reminding us that the 'dry' is only weeks away.

With the recent flooding rains experienced in the Pilbara region as a result of a couple of passing cyclones, the wildflowers season later this year should be spectacular! Whether you want to stay close to home or travel further afield for a holiday this year, Best Of The Kimberley can plan and arrange your Kimberley, Northern Territory, Coral Coast or Karijini getaway.

To discuss your holiday plans, contact Best Of The Kimberley on 1800 450 850.

It is whale watching time!

whales broomeAs they have for countless centuries, whales are currently migrating north along the Western Australian coastline to Camden Harbour where they will calve over the coming months before returning to southern waters later in the year.

For the first time, regular whale watching tours have commenced in Broome and Rosemary from Best Of The Kimberley ventured out on a perfect Friday afternoon last week aboard the fastest charter boat in WA "Observer", to experience the wonder of these great mammals. A spotter plane quickly located whales as Observer sped to the location. Within minutes water spouts and giant splashes from the whales were seen. Over the next 2 hours, numerous humpback whales were seen making their way along the coast. Seasnakes, green turtles and a pod of Indo-Pacific dolphins also kept us in wonder.

Broome has not been well known for whales, but they are often seen just off the coast by local fishermen and they have been known to come quite close to shore off Cable Beach. Now one of Broome's best kept secrets is available for all to enjoy. Contact Best Of The Kimberley on freecall 1800 450 850 (or http://www.kimberleytravel.com.au/) to book your whale watching tour. $120 per person, for a 3 hour tour includes hotel transfers.

Experience Australia as Adventurous or Relaxed as you want

kimberley, australiaThe recent filming of the new movie "Australia" in and around Kununurra has put this special part of the Kimberley well and truly on the map. So what is all the fuss about? Let us explain.....just imagine:

A land of ancient rivers and gorges, of ragged ranges that stretch on and on and on, then disappear into a limitless horizon.

A region of roaring wet season rivers, exploding over cliff faces and chasms, creating spectacular waterfalls that cascade into deep cool waterholes.

A place to maybe catch that barramundi, watch a couple of Brolgas waltzing together in the early evening light, or sneak a glimpse of a big old “croc” sunning himself on the river bank.

A destination called “Purnululu”; a world heritage listed National Park, where you can walk among the 360 million year old “beehive” domes of the Bungle Bungle Range.

A destination where you can take a birds eye view of the waterways of the mighty Ord River. Look in awe over the expanse of Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake, and a true testament to the engineering feats of a developing Kimberley back in the 60’s and 70’s.

A place to shop for that exclusive diamond.

A destination for the family.

A place where you can canoe, swim, boat, water-ski, or just laze about and let the world float by.

A great spot to just sit on a rock and watch a truly spectacular Kimberley sunset unfold, then fade away right before your eyes.

The team at Best Of The Kimberley can tailor your Kununurra holiday to be as adventurous or relaxed as you want. View Best of the Kimberley for more details.

Broome's Staircase to the Moon

staircase to the moonExperience this amazing, natural phenomenon which us caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting off the exposed mudflats in Roebuck Bay, Broome, at extremely low tide thus creating a beautiful optical illusion of a golden "staircase to the moon".

This occurs in Broome during the months of March to October each year. Best Of The Kimberley has created a 5 day/4 night package for March, April, May & October 2008 to coincide with the 'staircase' dates, including accommodation at The Mangrove Resort Hotel, which is one of the best vantage points in Broome to view this event.
